History of the College

Kharupetia College is one of the premier institutions of higher education in Darrang District. The College saw the light of day as a result of untiring efforts of the far- sighted people of greater Kharupetia locality. Established in the year 1981, the college was taken over by the Govt. of Assam under deficit system of grants-in-aid w.e.f. 25/03/98. The college was provincialized by the Govt. of Assam w.e.f. 01/12/2005 vide Govt. notification No. LPG. 112/2005/158 dated the 19th December, 2005.

The College has been included under section 2(f) & 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956.

Affiliated to Gauhati University, the college was assessed and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in October, 2004. The college imparts both Higher Secondary and Degree Courses in Arts and Commerce stream. The college has been maintaining excellent records of performance in different University and Council Examinations.


Kharupetia College is situated at Kharupetia, a fast developing commercial town in Shyamabari Mouza of Mangaldoi Sub-Division under Darrang District. It is about 17 Km. away from Mangaldoi, the District headquarter and 87 Kms from Guwahati, the gateway of NE-region . It is situated by the National Highway No. 15 connecting Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali, Tezpur.

Institutional Distinctiveness

Kharupetia college is situated in a minority dominated area with a poor socio economic set up. Moreover, the college also belongs to a district which has been identified as one of the aspirational district of the country. As a part of our efforts to translate into reality the stated vision and mission of the college and to help in producing capable and responsible citizens the college makes every effort to provide quality higher education to the learners of this socially and economically backward region. For this purpose the college has a strong team of dedicated teachers who spare no pains to give their best in terms of curricular and cocurricular activities. The Faculty Members of College are very active socially and intellectually. Academic excellence has always been the first priority of this college and the
Faculty Members are encouraged to achieve greater heights in academic as well as extracurricular areas. The college authority provides all types of logistic support for this purpose. The teachers apart from discharging their professional responsibilities, also involve themselves in various c0mmunity welfare activities and outreach programmes. In view of the growing demand of the backward region for more seats, the intake capacity of various courses and programmes of the college has increased from time to time. Financial incentives and support are also provided to the poor and meritorious students of the locality within the limited resources of the college.
